Next week’s calendar looks fairly lively with important data releases coming from across the globe.

In the US, Wednesday and Thursday will be key dates for the markets as we see inflation related economic releases in the form of consumer and purchaser prices indexes. With no change in policy recently being announced at the latest Federal Open Market Committee meeting, will these figures support the almost certain projected in a hike in June?

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is scheduled to announce their latest policy decision in the late hours of Wednesday evening. Although no change is expected, the event will have extra interest as it will be the first meeting presided by the new governor, Adrian Orr. With no substantial changes to domestic or global economic outlook since the last RBNZ meeting, it seems that this one is just a formality with the usual interest being paid to the press release.

The next jewel in the calendar will be the outcome from the Bank of England’s latest monetary policy meeting. A day that will see the official bank rate, voting outcome, full policy statement and the quarterly inflation report, rightly dubbed as the ‘Super Thursday’. All eyes have been on this meeting since the start of the year as markets were factoring in an 80% chance of a rate hike, this was recently turned on its head as Governor Mark Carney announced that there are other months during the year where the bank can act. The markets were jolted and quickly factored in the possibility of rates remaining unchanged in the May meeting. Further data releases in the form of GDP and PMI data have disappointed, further depressing the chance of a potential hike.
