Spread betting - the week ahead in forex, equities, commodities and indices

A quieter week for data compared to the last fortnight or so, but there is still plenty for traders to watch.

Figures from China bookend the week and should prove interesting. Trade balance data comes on Monday, while key industrial production figures are released on Friday. PMI readings for July offer a mixed picture, with the unofficial Caixin manufacturing survey indicating the first expansion in 17 months, while the official manufacturing PMI showed factory output contracted in July.

Following last week’s Bank of England meeting, Tuesday’s official manufacturing figures will be among the most closely-followed UK releases. German GDP data and some US inflation and retail sales figures are in focus on Friday.

Earnings season is winding down but there are still some big reports on both sides of the Atlantic. In the UK, insurers Prudential and Legal & General will be watched, while retailers Macy’s and Nordstrom are the focus for the US markets.
