About ETX Capital

ETX Capital is the trading name of Monecor (London) Ltd which was incorporated in 1973. The firm joined interdealer broker Tradition in 2000 as part of their institutional bond brokerage services. In 2002 Monecor became the retail derivatives arm of Tradition UK under the trading name TradIndex. The company quickly established itself as one of the leading UK providers of retail derivatives achieving growth of over 100% year on year.

Exciting developments

TradIndex recognised the significant potential of the internet to allow individual traders to profit from the movement of global markets.

TradIndex offered a form of speculating previously reserved for large banks and investment houses and widely known as derivatives trading. Historically, the financial products traded in this way were exotic and complex. TradIndex, however, could offer a straightforward £1-per-tic web-based spread betting platform focusing on the world's major, established markets in Europe, North America and Asia.

Educating and protecting

Our trading platform was launched in 2002 with a groundbreaking stop loss feature that reduced customers' downside risk while enjoying all the upside potential. Although stop losses were not guaranteed, this unique feature also reduced our customers' initial margin requirement to a minimum, making the amount of funds needed to place a spread bet as small as possible.

Another feature was the virtual account that allowed investors to experiment and try out their strategies without committing a penny. In 2004 we even included a free copy of Michelle Baltazar's The Beginner's Guide to Spread Betting to educate the internet-based investor further.

Further improvements included a number of new tradable instruments and enhanced features that made the website more intuitive as internet technology progressed.

The next step

In 2007 a group of investors acquired Monecor and launched the wider-reaching ETX Capital in 2008, with three trading products in the new Green, Silver and Black accounts, offering choice to every kind of investor from keen private investors to institutions and high-net worth individuals.

The name ETX Capital reflects the company's core businesses of electronic trading, telephone trading and execution services.
